The good, the bad and the funny
I know, I know, it’s the foremost topic on everybody’s mind and on the tip of everyone’s lips; which of course no one can see because everyone’s wearing a mask or at least is supposed to. None of us have faced something of this magnitude which locked us down and added accessories to our faces. This is a first for all of us without exception because at the end of the day, I don’t think anyone reading this was born in 1918 (the year of the great Spanish Flu). Ebola and others were considered epidemics; big difference!
We are all fatigued, frustrated and fed up, more so because we have absolutely no clue when all this will end. Work-life balance and boundaries have gone haywire. The days seem to blur and melt into one another; it seems like yesterday was March and it’s already November. Hugs have been replaced by elbow bumps and kisses, like the virus, are mostly airborne. Let’s face it, things have changed and that is going to remain unchanged for a while. So, while we are here, I thought I’d present a more lighthearted, personal perspective because we are all in this together. I know that some of us have it tougher than others, but we can all do with a smile or two.
The Good: On the one hand, you can choose to take care of yourself and dress up for online meets or even just like that (I know I do and know some others who do too), or if you are working from home you can opt to stay in your jammies at least in the bottom half and not take a shower. No one can tell. Has there ever been such a seamless coexistence between two opposing sides?
The Bad: These are the only times when you wear a mask and get to assess the quality of your breath and how you might have been impacting others with it during the pre-pandemic and pre-mask times. Coffee breath, garlic breath, just the usual bad breath; the list is endless. Has there ever been a time when hand sanitizers and mouthwash were such simultaneous must haves?
The Funny: It is delightful and hilarious to see how innovative people have been with their masks. In this instance, I think that it’s better to let the pictures do the talking because sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. Has there ever been a time or will there ever be a time when such charming inventions show up to gladden our eyes and our hearts?
