Three steps to Nirvana, pandemic or no pandemic.
If you’ve noticed, all we are basically doing everyday is running around in circles because life has increasingly become a cyclical rat race.
We are either like a dog chasing its own tail or like a headless chicken running helter skelter. Think about it. Oh! That’s right! We don’t have the time to think. At least we don’t think we do or think that we don’t. Wait! What?
Life has become a series of acquisitions and needless competition. A house, a spouse, a car or two; if you have more, I want more than you. At one point you might stop and say, “what the heck?” “is my life only about social media posts and that paycheck?” But that’s it. You’re quickly back to the rat race again because according to you, you have things to attain and likes to gain.
So, you ask, what is to be done? Can my life be simpler? Can my life be stress-free? Amidst all these shenanigans, can my life also be fun? The answer to all this is yes! Although this I must confess. You can be and have whatever you wanna, as long as you follow the three steps to Nirvana. Don’t let life happen when you’re busy making a plan, seize the moment now. When you can.
Take a step back from your daily race and ask yourself when you last smelled the coffee (or tea) that you drank, when you last took, ‘a me’ time for absolutely no reason without Tweeting, Instagramming or FaceBooking about it. And, when was the last time you stopped your work day at 6pm or did it without feeling guilty or stressed about backlogs and others’ opinions?
So, pause and…
BREATHE. Inhale through your nose for four counts and heave exhale through the mouth for eight. Do a total of ten breaths. While you’re at it, place your hands on your stomach. It’s your stomach that should move. Ever seen a baby breathe? And while you’re doing that, stare into space. Keep electronics away. Most of us breathe in and out of our chests and that’s called shallow breathing.
So, pause, breathe and REPEAT. Try these. Before you take a sip of your favorite beverage, take a second to take in the aroma. Do this every time. Take twenty minutes off from work and social media and simply stare into space. Empty your mind by doing nothing and letting your thoughts flow. Do this every two hours. If you can’t take twenty, then take ten. Oh yes and keep up the breath work.
These tips may be tiny, but they will go a long way to make your everyday calm, cool and shiny
Stay safe. Wear a mask. We love you.
